Cotton Sheets vs. Bamboo Sheets

We all know that sheets are an essential part of a good night’s sleep. But do you know just how important they are? Finding the right sheets can mean the difference between sleeping comfortably and tossing and turning through the night.

When it comes to sheets, there are two stand out fabric types: Cotton and Bamboo Viscose. Cotton is most likely the first material that comes to mind when we think about sheets. It’s the most popular and most widely used material in the bedding market. Bamboo Viscose, on the other hand, has been taking the bedding industry by storm, with many unique features that contribute to it’s stunning reputation in the bedding community.

We’re going to compare cotton and bamboo viscose sheets on a variety of levels to see which one should be in YOUR bedroom.

Comfort

With comfort, it’s hard to determine which is truly “better”. What is comfortable for one may not be comfortable for another. That being said, comfort can be easily linked to softness, which can be compared.

The softness of cotton sheets is usually displayed through the thread count. The higher the thread count, the softer the sheets should be. Egyptian and Pima cotton are among the most coveted, earning a high thread count.

Bamboo viscose sheets are not measured on a thread count due to how small the woven fibers are. This fact can throw off buyers who are used to the thread count system. However, bamboo viscose sheets are widely regarded as being softer than cotton, and even silk.

Care

As with any product, the care of the sheets will vary from brand to brand and product to product. Again, bamboo viscose tends to win out here as being more durable than cotton. As long as the directions are followed, you shouldn’t see any rips, tears, snagging, or pilling.

Temperature

Cotton has a tendency to retain more heat than bamboo viscose at a lower thread count. The higher the thread count of the sheets, the more breathable they become. Bamboo viscose has earned the reputation of being considerably cooler and naturally more breathable than cotton.

Health

Bamboo viscose has considerably more health benefits than cotton. It is naturally hypoallergenic, repels common household non-living allergens, and stays fresher for longer. They’re also mindful, as bamboo that is harvested can grow back at an incredible rate. Cotton, while does match bamboo in the plant category, is frequently sprayed with pesticides and other harsh chemicals. If you opt for a cotton sheet set, look for 100% organic in order to spare yourself from coming into contact with these health hazards.

Cost

Now what we’re sure you’ve been waiting for. How do cotton and bamboo viscose compare in terms of cost? This is a great question with a few different answers. If you were to go to any department store, you’re going to find cotton sheets that have a wide range of prices. Lower thread counts are going to come to a much cheaper price than bamboo viscose sheets, but you’ll most likely be sacrificing comfort and durability for the sake of cost. If you place more value on durability, comfort, coolness, and other factors, bamboo viscose or higher count cotton sheets are your options. In general, bamboo viscose gives you the same, if not better, benefits of high thread count cotton at a lower price.
